If you are tired of the same blue folder icon that Apple has been using for years, you can change it using a custom icon. If you have a PNG or JPG file, you must first open it in Preview, merge two pdf pages into one page mac copy it, and then paste it into the Folder Info window.

My personal favorite keyboard shortcut is CMD + H. This will hide your currently active application and is a great way to clear something from view without having to close it completely. To restore the window, simply click on the application's dock icon.

3. Show hidden files in the Finder

A super quick and easy way to show invisible or hidden files in the Finder is to use the keyboard shortcut CMD + SHIFT + Period. from there, you'll see that any files marked as hidden will be grayed out. To re-hide a file from view, simply use the same command again.

With a new set of Emoji coming to macOS later this year, this quick Emoji keyboard shortcut will help you find the right emoji wherever you type. 6. Move folders to Finder Favorites

In Finder, we have a list of favorites on the left sidebar. You can add folders to this list by grabbing the desired folder and dragging it to the sidebar. This does not move the folder in any way, it only creates a handy shortcut. You can remove the folder by right-clicking on it and selecting "Remove from Sidebar". 7.

7. Drag without drag lock

By double-clicking and leaving your finger on the trackpad, you can drag windows or other items until you press again. With Drag Lock enabled, you can even lift your finger and continue dragging from a different position on the trackpad.

Since OS X El Capitan 10.11, Apple has made it possible to drag and move freely on the Spotlight search bar. To reposition it to its original location, simply tap and hold the Spotlight search icon in the menu bar (top right corner) for a few seconds. This is a simple trick if you lose Spotlight.

9. Using the Option key to move files

In Finder, you can copy files by right-clicking or using CMD + C. But if you want to move a file instead of moving it, you can use the Option key. But what if you want to move a file instead of multiple copies? Instead of slamming CMD + V to paste, you can use the Option key (i.e. CMD + OPT + V) to move the file. Very convenient!

Have some quick video editing to do but don't want to open iMovie or Final Cut? try QuickTime, yes QuickTime. one video is already open, just drag another video into the window to trim and attach them. This also works with mp3 files. Much faster than traditional video editing!
